This study examines preachers and their social role during the Abbasid era in the third and fourth Hijri centuries. It is a socio-historical study that reveals the diverse groups who voluntarily engaged in preaching, including ascetics, pious individuals, poets, and orators. The research clarifies their social role within society and also addresses the administrative professions that practiced preaching, such as judges, market inspectors (muḥtasibs), storytellers (quṣṣāṣ), and officially authorized preachers.
